A three-member constitu-! tional court has been hearing; .petitions challenging the validity of the bill, which seeks to regulate the press in Sri Lanka (Ceylon) and set up ai 'press council. The bill was presented to the assembly on November 7 and was immediately chai-, lenged in eight petitions,' mainly on the ground that it imposed unjustifiable re-, straint on freedom of speech! and expression.
