KIDNAPPING TRIAL

JacIques Rose, was acquitted yesterday of kidnapping the [Quebec Labour Minister, Mr Pierre Laporte, who was ab- ! ducted in October. 1970 and later found strangled in the boot of a car. Rose, aged 25, still faces trial on a charge of murdering Mr Laporte.
I (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) MONTREAL, Dec. 10. I A former mechanic, JacIques Rose, was acquitted yesterday of kidnapping the [Quebec Labour Minister, Mr [Pierre Laporte, who was abducted in October, 1970 and later found strangled in the 'boot of a car.
Rose, aged 25, still faces trial on a charge of murdering Mr Laporte. The 11-man jury took 17 hours to reach its verdict in Rose’s second trial. The first trial ended on May II when the jury could not reach a verdict. Rose’s brother. Jacques, is already serving two concurrent life sentences for the murder and kidnapping of Mr Laporte. Members of the separatist Quebec Liberation Front (F.L.Q.) take responsibility for kidnapping Mr Laporte. After yesterday’s verdict, spectators in Court cheered and sang a Quebec nationalist song.
