Hayles will defend title

(N Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) KINGSTON (Jamaica). The Commonwealth lightweight boxing champion, P. Hayles, has agreed to defend his title against A. Ford (Canada) in Jamaica on a supporting bout to the world heavy-weight title fight between the champion, J Frazier, and G. Foreman, on January 22. Officials said efforts are being made to have the local welter-weight chamoion, B. Grant, a former Commonwealth light-weight champion, fight on the same card. Promoters said they are honing to match Grant with a Puerto Rican, but arrangements were still to be settled. Hayles’s decision to give Ford a crack at his title has : denied the Australian, G. i White, his chance.
