Rise in Miramar M.P.’s majority
The sitting National member for Miramar, Mr W. L. Young, has increased his General Election majority over Dr B. F. M. Edwards, the Labour candidate, after the counting of special votes.
The Press Association reports that Mr Young’s majority —258 on election night — rose to 434 when the final count ended last evening.
In Rangiora, the only Canterbury seat to fall to Labour, the final Count has cut Mt T. K. Burke’s electionnight majority by 50, but he is left with a margin of 866.
Mr Burke received 506 special votes, and Mr A. E. Hiatt, a new National Party candidate, 558. Special votes have given the Prime Minister-elect (Mr Kirk) a greater majority in Sydenham. The official count gives him 11,711 votes, 6989 more than his National opponent.
