Holiday award problem
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Dec. 5. The Remuneration Authority met on Friday for the first time since the election, but it is believed that it did not consider any of the agreements before it. Most of the main awards before it carry new holiday provisions agreed to in negotiation, giving workers three weeks holiday after two years service. Unless the Court of Arbitration ratifies the agreements before Christmas, the delay could cost those covered by these awards one week’s holiday if they take their leave during the Christmas season.
The stabilisation regulations covering the authority have to be revoked by Order-in-Council before it can be abolished. The Prime Minister-elect (Mr Kirk) has said that the Government will abolish the authority before Christmas.
