Film about paraplegics
What is probably the first film made in New Zealand showing the challenges and problems which face a. paraplegic in adapting to a life in a wheel chair was shown in Christchurch last evening. The half-hour film, with recorded commentary, was made by a Christchurch camera enthusiast, Mrs I. M. Poulton, and was shown to about 200 members and friends of the Canterbury Paraplegic Association at its annual Christmas party.
The film, in the form of colour slides, traces the progress of paraplegics from the time of their admission to a spinal unit and through various phases of treatment to their eventual rehabilitation into the community. The efforts made by paraplegics to involve themselves In various sporting activities are shown, and the special adaptations which have to be made to the homes of paraplegics. The association expects that the film will be in demand for showing to other groups in Christchurch.
