Sonsie Lass wins heat of greyhound St Leger

Brilliant early speed enabled Mrs B. Couzin’s and A. Choat's young bitch, Sonsie Lass, to win the South Island heat of the New South Wales St Leger at the Christchurch Greyhound Racing Club's equalisator meeting on Saturday.

When her main rivals i were striking trouble on the first bend — Winsome Ways and Flat Stick were the main sufferers — Sousie Lass had gone well clear. Winsome Ways made a gallant bid but was still two lengths behind at the finish.

Sousie Lass will now represent the South Island in the New Zealand heat at Auckland on September 30.

B Cantwell’s outstanding bitch. Shantung, the new New Zealand flat champion, added the open flat to its imposing record of successes A most sensible dog. Shantung, as usual, bounced out first and was always well ahead

The white dog. Jetsam. Cantwell’s other starter, ran pleasingly for second, and Rosearna made up ground from the rear for third.
