KIRKNESS CHAMPION
4hr final in billiards
(N.Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN. Scoring the highest break for the tournament—of 192 points—the Canterbury player, B. Kirkness, won the New Zealand billiards championships at Oamaru on Saturday. Kirkness beat E. Simons (Canterbury), 1046-837, in the four-hour final. Simons had a best break of 95.
The runner-up in the billiards title in 1961, Kirkness won the snooker championship last year, and was run-ner-up in 1962. Results were:—
Semi-finals.—E. Simons (Canterbury, 117) beat B. Bennett (Taranaki, 49), 1352-589; B. Kirkness (Canterbury, 117) beat R. Flutey (South Auckland, 83), 863-683. Section play (the best of five frames) will begin in the snooker championships today.
