Pole vault record

(N.Z. Press Association) INVERCARGILL

A Dunedin athlete. G. Townsend, yesterday set a New Zealand indoor polevaulting record, when he cleared 12ft 7in at the final indoor track meeting for the season in Invercargill. The previous record of 12ft 6in was set this year by P. Tracey, of Waikato, at a meeting in Napier. Townsend set the new record on his third attempt. He also tried to vault 13ft lin, but went under the bar.
