SYDNEY, September 17.
The 300-pound King of Tonga arrived in Sydney on Friday on his way home from London and promptly denied rumours that he was overweight. King Taufa’Ahau Tupou IV invited reporters into the V.I.P. room at the airport to quash the rumours and to deny that his London trip had included a course in weight reduction. "I don’t think I’m overweight and I think I’m fit,” said the King in rebuttal of earlier newspaper reports as to the purpose of his trip. The King said he had gone to England to take his son to a London school and to attend the Farnborough Air Show.
He said that he had inspected a three-engined BrittenNorman Islander as the possible basis for a Tongan airline, but had not placed any orders for the aircraft.
