VIEWERS’ VIEWS
"THE BOLD ONES” Contrary to last Thursday’s “Points of Viewing" eolumn, the first episode of "The Bold Ones” was, to me, the most enjoyable television programme for many weeks, and because of this my television set has gained a last-minute reprieve. Neither do I consider "Marcus Welby M.D." to be "pap,” and I certainly would not classify "The Outcasts" as “trivia.” This word would be more aptly applied to the television reviewers’ column. I strongly resent their daily impliestion that viewers who prefar these American-produced programmes have atrocious taste. Any programme with English accents, unlimited bloodies and worse, and sordid rubbish for the base of a story, automatically gains the reviewer's fatuous approval These people serve no purpose whatever; each individual knows exactly what programmes they prefer to watch without having reviewers pro-British absurdities forced down their throats in the daily paper. —“INFURIATED VIEWER.” “GALLERY” The point which most people seem to have missed is that "Gallery” could discuss with school children a book which is available to them, but which cannot be quoted on television, thus emphasising the double standards which contribute to generation gaps and credibility or credulity gaps. But double standards are symptomatic of the whole attitude of "Gallery.” While people of standing and responsibility are grilled by a hostile David Exel—the same questions being put over and over again as if trying to break some terrorist in Northern Ireland—we have had perverts encouraged in their glorification of deceit, blackmail and cruel extortion, and the same kid-glove treatment for motor-cycle thugs permitted to boast of their past and projected mayhems. If the Kids of today are a bit confused, who can blame them. —"JIM ABELSON”
