Escape in rubbish

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, April 16. A 19-year-old youth who escaped from Mount Eden Prison in a rubbish bin yesterday was recaptured early this afternoon in a Pukekohe house. The prisoner, Herbert Bradley, had served about six weeks of an 18-month term for burglary and receiving. He was on cleaning duties in the east wing of the prison when he disappeared. The police said Bradley made his escape in a rubbish bin. Other inmates poured rubbish on him, and then carried the bin through the gates to the collection spot. Bradley will appear in the Auckland Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, charged with escaping from a penal institution.
