Leeds in soccer final

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) LONDON. Leeds United reached the final of the English Cup soccer for the third time in seven years when it beat the seconddivision dub, Birmingham City, 3-0, in their semi-final on Saturday. But Leeds must wait to learn the identity of its opponent in the final at Wembley on May 6 as Arsenal and Stoke City drew, 1-1, in the other semi-final, and will replay at Everton on Wednesday. Leeds, which has never won the cup, outclassed Birmingham, and M. Jones (2) and P. Lorimer scored the goals which settled the match and boosted Leeds’ hopes of achieving the league and cup double. Arsenal, the cup-holder, took the lead against Stoke with a goal by G. Armstrong, but Stoke equalised with an own goal by the Arsenal defender, P. Simpson. In the Scottish Cup, Kang-

ers and Hibernian drew, 1-1, and must replay for, the right to meet Celtic in the final, also on May 6. Derby County and Liverpool took advantage of the cup commitments of Leeds by winning their English League matches by convincing margins, but Manchester City, one of the four teams contesting the most exciting title race for years, dropped a point. Derby, 56 points, and Manchester, 55, have two games to, play, Liverpool, 54, has three, and Leeds, 53, has four. Celtic made certain of winning the Scottish League title for a record seventh time in succession. ENGLISH CUP Semi-finals. — Birmingham 0, Leeds 3; Stoke 1, Arsenal 1.
