I.H.C. call for aid
(HZ Press Association! WELLINGTON, April 16. The Intellectually Handicapped Children’s Society needed more Government financial assistance to prevent its services from faltering and eventually breaking down, said the society's president (Dr M. M. G. Beasley) in his annual report. The society’s running costs amounted to $900,000 last year; about 30 per cent of this came from the Government. Dr Beasley said: “The time has come when we can no longer shoulder a burden of this magnitude. The Government’s financial contribution needs to be doubled if we are to maintain our present services.” Rising prices and wages had affected the society and last year its costs were greatly increased by inflation.
