FIRM MARKET IN SHORT PRE-EASTER SESSION
The New Zealand sharemarket closed on a firm note after an active morning session on Thursday. Good rises were shown across the boards, and falls were well out-numbered.
The leaders of most sections attracted the main interest, with the manufacturers standing out. Alex Harvey shares were very much in demand, the price moving up 17c to 370 c at the end of trading. Alcan looked stronger with a recovery of 5c to 195 c, and Fletcher Holdings was taken 4c higher to 190 c. Broadlands at 102 c and
General Finance at 225 c, and U.D.C. at 215 c edged higher. The retail group was firmer with H.B. at 225 c, 3c higher, D.I.C. at 202 c, 2c higher, and Milne’s at 62c, 1c higher. Trans Holdings was 5c lower at 125 c after adjusting for the one-for-two par issue. Property Securities eased 5c to 310 c and Consolidated Brick’s shares and notes .were easier.
