SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX

Penyagain victor (K.Z.P.A. -Reuter—Copt/r(oht) SINGAPORE. The New Zealander, G. Perry, yesterday won the Singapore motor-cycle grand prix for the second successive year after a Rreat with A. Motohashi Mtotohashi, riding a powerful new Yamaha 350, led until the 22-year-old Perry slipped past him braking into a hairpin bend on the thirty-ninth lap of the 50 lap race. Perry, once in front, drew away on his 497 c.c. Suzuki and won comfortably in 17.6 sec from the Japanese. Another New Zealander, T. Discombe lying third for most of the race, rode a fast forty-ninth lap and caught the flagging Motobashi. But no sooner had Dlscombe swept past the Japanese than he spun on the treacherous hairpin half way round the last lap. Dlscombe grazed his right knee but was otherwise unhurt. He was so annoyed with himself that he made no effort to restart his machine and finish the race. Otherwise, he would easily have taken third position. Perry did the 50 laps of the tortuous 3.023-mile Sembawang circuit in Ihr 56mln 33.25ec, at an average speed of 77.78 miles an hour.
