Float plane damaged

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, March 31. A float plane badly. damaged one of its floats while taking off from Mechanics Bay today. The aircraft had five passengers aboard when it took off from the Mount Cook Airlines, Ltd, base shortly after 11 a.m. The Auckland branch manager for the company (Captain B. H. Packer) said later that the plane was gathering speed when it ploughed into the wake of a boat. “At the same time a gust of wind hit it from one side and lifted the wing up,” he said. “This had the effect of pushing down the other wing —and badly damaging the float.”
