Smallpox in Bangladesh

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter— Copyright) GENEVA, March 31. The World Health Organisation says that its staff _ in Bangladesh has reported 1077 cases of smallpox since midFebruary. A spokesman said that the number of cases was not unusual for Bangladesh, where smallpox was endemic, and he would not describe it as an epidemic. Smallpox is endemic only in Pakistan, Bangladesh, India, Ethiopia and Sudan. It has been reported in Dacca that at least 225 people have died in one district -of Bangladesh alone in an extensive outbreak of the disease.
