GAOL TERM FOR FRAUD

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, March 29. Oswald Oliver Wahriich, aged 52, an unemployed clerk, who previously admitted 58 charges of false pretences involving nearly $87,000, was sentenced to four years gaol by Mr Justice Speight today. “Your career has shown that leaving you at liberty is a very costly business for gullible members of the public, not just in thousands of dollars but in tens of thousands,” said his Honour. Wahriich had been committed to the Supreme Court for sentence by Mr C. E. H. Pledger, S.M. The lower court had been told that Wahriich had formed and run three companies in Christchurch and Auckland between 1964 and 1967. Through these companies he fraudulently obtained and misappropriated

366,740.19 from investors he induced to place funds.
