BABY GIRL BORN ON FERRY.—Mrs N. W. Johnston, of Yarrow Street, Invercargill, with her baby daughter, Joy, in the Christchurch Women’s Hospital yesterday. The baby was born in the inter-island ferry Maori on Friday morning. The Union Steam Ship Company staff handled the unexpected situation well, providing a qualified midwife (a stewardess) and a doctor (Dr J. Kent, of Tauranga) who was a passenger. The mother and baby were met by an ambulance at the wharf and taken to the hospital.
