George of Tonga, never saw his own portrait on his country’s stamps. Fiji’s first official issue did not appear until 1871; and they showed a crown and the Royal monogram instead of the Royal features.
Also included in the design of the new stamp is King Cakobau’s club. This has been used as a mace bv Fiji’s legislative council, and will serve a similar purpose in the new independent parliament.
