Ailment not the bends

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Dec. 30. The man flown from Paeroa to Auckland last night with suspected bends was found not to be suffering from decompression sickness, a Naval hospital spokesman said today. The man, whose name has not been released, was diving off Whangamata Beach yesterday when he got into difficulties. The cause of the trouble is not known.

After an ambulance trip to Paeroa, he was taken by helicopter to the Devonport Naval Hospital. The hospital spokesman said the diver had definitely not contracted the bends, and was not admitted to the recompression chamber. The man was expected to be discharged from hospital today.

Satisfactory.—A Christchurch woman is in a satisfactory condition in Grey Hospital after the car which she was driving ran off the road near the New River, at Camerons, on Wednesday evening. She is Mrs Melva Lucy Mcllroy, of 8 Sawyers Arms Road, Papanui. She was the sole occupant of the car.—(F.O.O.R.) I
