Clean sweep by B. Smith
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. The 22-year-old Mount Eden player, B. Smith, made a clean sweep of the senior titles in the New Zealand Maori tennis championships yesterday. He became singles champion for the fifth time with a win over R. Pen! (Waipu), teamed with his younger brother, Peter, to take the doubles title once again, and then partnered Mrs R. Davy in winning the mixed doubles.
Results of finals were:— Men’s singles.—B. Smith (Auckland) beat R. Pen! (Waipu), 6-2, 6-1. Women’s singles.—Mrs R. Davy (Rotorua) beat Mrs H. Peni (Taumarunui), 6-0, 6-0. Men's doubles.—P. and B. Smith beat J. Cooney (Auckland) and C. Roia (Whakatane), 6-4, 6Women’s doubles.—M. Hiha (Napier) and B. Harvey (Auckland) beat M. and H. Peni, 0-6, 7- 6-4. Mixed doubles.—Smith and Mrs Davy beat R. Peni and Mrs H. Peni, 6-3.
