Girl may miss wedding

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Dec. 29. An 18-year-old Indian girl, whose marriage has been arranged for next Monday, has been missing from her home in Lower Hutt since Monday.

Miss Parvati Kala, who was bom in New Zealand, is to marry Mr Mavindra Bhama, aged 21, from the Balsa district in India, at the Saltation Army Church in Petone at 2 p.m. on Monday. Mr Bhama, who works in agriculture in India, arrived in New Zealand on December 7 for the “arrange’” marriage. Today the father of the missing girl, Mr Manga Kala, said he and his wife were particularly anxious to know

the whereabouts of their daughter, who disappeared i from home on Monday after-1 noon apparently with all her 1 clothing and personal i effects. “Why did she leave home? i That is what we want to i know,” said Mr Kala. His daughter met Mr I Bhama in India in 1967, and i they had corresponded since i then, he said.

Mr Kala agreed it was possible his daughter might no longer want to go on with the wedding but, if so, he did not know why. Mr Bhama will have to return to India unless the marriage takes place. His visa expires, on January 7, but if the marriage takes place. the couple will settle in New Zealand. Mr Kala said that between 50 and 100 guests were expected at the wedding. The police said tonight that they have received no reports on the situation, and no official action was planned. The situation did not appear to warrant any action.
