French-Soviet satellite up

The Soviet Union has developed and launched a research satellite in cooperation with French scientists, the French National Centre for Space Studies announced yesterday. The satellite will study high-altitude phenomena at upper latitudes and also examine the Northern Lights. It was said to be functioning normally after being launched—from an unspecified point in the Soviet Union.
