BOWLS Any club playing the system of classified “drawn” championship fours is disqualified by the Christchurch Bowling Cen-
tre from contesting provincial title honours. It decrees open entry, and every skip freely chooses his own team. Thus the best bowlers remain together as a “clique” year after year.
Clubs pay lip service to unity and fellowship, but the centre’s fours decree persistently creates 25 cells of disunity for every 100 playing members. Five “top-notchers” can perenially contest the honours and 20 teams of "no-hop-ers” provide the travesty of champion four competition. Current inflationary costs demanded that clubs increase membership for higher revenue, but men go fishing, rather than join “cliquey” Canterbury chibs rendered so by the centre’s fours decree.
Give clubs the option by postal ballot, of “drawn” championship fours to restore genuine relaxed fellowship and inspire new membership. The ascendancy and attraction of the game will be revitalised. SKIP.
