BELGRADE, Dec. 28. ■ Six persons were arrested when demonstrators shouting hostile slogans marched along a main street in Sibenik, a Croatian town on the Adriatic, the Belgrade daily, “Politika, 5” reported. It said .that police intervened when the crowd shouted “insolent provocations and hostile outbursts” near a police station. After the six demonstrators were arrested, the rest dispersed. The six were today in custody, the newspaper added, and the Sibenik Public Prosecutor had ordered a criminal investigation against them. The demonstration occurred about the time of midnight Mass, observers noted. Most of Croatia’s four million people are Roman Catholics. A general purge is being carried out against nationalist and separatist elements in Croatia, one of the republics which make up Jugoslavia. The Belgrade weekly newspaper, “Nin,” suggested that the Roman Catholic Church in Jugoslavia had something to do with rising nationalism in Croatia. The newspaper alleged that the “hostile group at Zagreb” the Croatian capital had been given “strong support” by some Church officials there.
