Toy guns too real
(N.Z Press Assn.—Copyright)
BELFAST, Dec. 28. There was a serious Christmas security problem in Belfast. Some parents in the city gave their children “combat-style” uniforms and toy weapons as Christmas presents. The youngsters then went on to the streets to imitate the real-life clashes of everyday Belfast. According to a police spokesman some of the children dressed in combat jackets, and carrying toy guns organised a mock ambush of soldiers.
“Fortunately it had happy results. But in the darkness it could have ended in tragedy,” he said.
“Parents should be warned about the dangers of their children using their presents in this way.” Last week, a woman who was carrying a toy machinegun fainted when a soldier challenged her with his gun.
