Poor weather in the McMurdo Sound region and strong head winds on the way caused a Royal New Zealand Air Force : Hercules on’ a flight to the Antarctic from Christchurch yesterday to turn back. . The Hercules, which carried about 20001 b of mail, a quantity of cargo and 11 passengers, was five hours out from Christchurch when it was decided not to go on with the flight. In the McMurdo Sound region-, blowing snow and visibility down to a quarter of a mile were reported.
