Hercules returns
Poor weather in the McMurdo Sound region and strong head winds on the way caused a Royal New Zealand Air Force : Hercules on’ a flight to the Antarctic from Christchurch yesterday to turn back. . The Hercules, which carried about 20001 b of mail, a quantity of cargo and 11 passengers, was five hours out from Christchurch when it was decided not to go on with the flight. In the McMurdo Sound region-, blowing snow and visibility down to a quarter of a mile were reported. Earlier, when the aircraft left Christchurch at 9.22 a.m., the weather in the terminal area was fine. It was the fourth supply flight of the summer by the R.N.Z.A.F. Now it is expected that the flight will be made today. The fifth and final R.N.Z.A.F. Hercules flight of the season is expected to be on January 5,
