China
Sir,—lt is indeed an insult to the great Chinese people for some of the students who visited China to go now to
Taiwan. People say they are being “objective” and are seeing the “other side of the picture” and hence justify this treachery. They forget that the “other side of the picture” was the pattern of life up to the Chinese liberation: wholesale killings of left-wing workers in 1927, collusion with the Japanese in their attack upon China, and generally a way of life hostile to the Chinese people. The Chinese people have had enough of Chiang and his methods. No doubt they will be feted by the old gang, but it will be impossible for any of these students to pay a second visit to China.—Yours, etc., P.J.A. December 28, 1971.
