Wool sale smaller
(N.Z. Press Association) TIMARU, Dec. 28. Proceeds from Timaru’s third wool sale for the season, on December 8, including supplementary payments, were $1,873,407 compared with $1,925,404 for the third sale in 1970. Last year, 20,767 bales of greasy wool were sold compared with 19,685 bales this year. The average price per bale was up this year—s9s.l7 ($92.71 in 1970)—as was the average price per kilo—--63.49c (60.66 c last year). The South Canterbury Woolbrokers’ Association said that scoured wool proceeds were $12,395, an increase of $2099 on the third 1970 sale. This year 177 bales of scoured wool were sold compared with 118 bales last year. The average price per bale for scoured wool was $70.02 compared with $87.25 in 1970, and the average price per kilo was 57.85 c compared with 74.38 c. Only 13 bales offered on account of the Wool Commission were sold, and these yielded $1075.
