Hostage to be freed

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) MONTEVIDEO, Sept. 9. Uruguay’s Tupamaros urban guerrillas declared overnight that they were freeing the British ambassador, Mr Geoffrey Jackson, aged 56, after holding him for eight months, and early today British Embassy officials and police were trying to verify the pledge. A statement purporting to come from the guerrillas and distributed at a public meeting said that there was “no longer any reason to hold him” after the escape from gaol early on Monday of 106 Tupamaros.
