Butter prices
Sir, —You report: “The rei tail price of butter would rise , from 30c a pound to 33c, the ; Price Tribunal announced.” . Would you ask the Price i Tribunal to comment on the . fact that butter in the past has i retailed in Kurow for 31C per . lb and now retails at 34c per : lb? Can they say why it has . in the past retailed at 30c , per lb at Otematata and TwiI zel and now retails at these , two places at 33c per lb i when these are both consid- , erably further from a point j of supply than Kurow is?— . Yours, etc., , LICKED, j August 26, 1971. [Mr D. J; Gasson replies ! on behalf of Mr S. T. Bar- ‘ nett, president of the Price ‘ Tribunal: "On the basis of 1 freight charges incurred, i special approval was given ■ some years ago to certain re- - tailers in Kurow and Otema- ■ tata to charge one cent a pound above ruling price order prices for butter. However, a retailer may charge less than the approved rnaxi- ' mum price if he wishes. No ' retailer at Twizel has made 1 application for approval to ‘ charge more than the price - order price.”]
