BRIDGE OVER HYDRO ELECTRIC POWER CANAL.—Mrs C. W. F. Hamilton cutting the ribbon to declare open the new bridge that carries State Highway 8 across the Tekapo-to-Pukaki hydro-electricity canal. Mr and Mrs Hamilton drove the first car across the bridge. Mr Hamilton has owned the Irishman Creek sheep station, through which the canal passes, since 1921. The bridge is 45ft above the level of the former highway at the canal position, six miles south of Tekapo, and is 150ft long. Assisting Mrs Hamilton is the Ministry of Works engineer in charge of the canal construction (Mr J. McKay).
