ANOTHER VICTORY

Miss Evert impresses (N.Z.P. A .-Reuter—Copyright) FOREST HILLS. The 16-year-old Chris Evert, the recently-emerged giant-killer of women’s tennis, continued her spectacular winning streak yesterday, defeating Mrs L. Hunt (Australia), 4-6, 6-2, 6-3, to gain a place in the semi-finals of the United States Open tennis championships. The Florida schoolgirl again gave a magnificent performance in scoring • her forty-fifth successive victory since February 21. Should Miss Evert, the daughter of a Florida public parks tennis professional, win the tournament, she would be the youngest girl to capture the United States title. The late Maureen Connally was also 16 when she first won the women’s singles at Forest Hills, but Miss Connally was three months older than Miss Evert would be. Miss Evert next faces the top-seeded Mrs B. J. King, who also reached the semifinals yesterday by defeating the 22-year-old Miss L. Dupont, upset winner of the seventh-seeded Mrs N. Gunter, 6-3, 7-5. fa the men’s singles, fourth round, T. Okker (Netherlands) beat R. Taylor (Britain), 6-4, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3; S. Smith (United States) beat M. Holocek (Czechoslovakia), 7-5, 3-2, Holocek retiring because of cramp; and C. Graebner (United States) beat R. Moore (South Africa), 6-2, 6-4, 6-3.
