2-year-old parade
Dhow, from Rlecarton, and a Copenhagen ll—Jan's Joy gelding—a member of E. P. Carboy's Washdyke stable—won the respective heats of the two-year-old parade at Ashburton yesterday. Dhow, a daughter of Final Orders and the good race mare. Shoal, led all the way for a three-quarter length victory In the fillle?’ section. Dhow, like her dam, carries the
colours of Mr and Mrs J. F. Tutton, and is trained for them by P. H. Jones. Flute, a filly by Tromba from Trove, and prepared for Mr R. G. Gerard by J. E. Shaw at Washdyke, was second. This close relation to Sandbank was followed home by a Final Orders—Sunny Gold filly, also raced by Mr and Mrs Tutton. The best of the others in the nine horse field was Fairhead, a FountainheadPlay Fairer filly which is trained on the course for Mr W. Boag by T. W. Reilly. Dhow ran the two furlongs from the starting gates in Msec. The Copenhagen H gelding, which was successful in the corresponding event at Orari the previous week, got up in the last stride to nose an un-named Final Orders—Miss Joi gelding out of the first place in the colts and geldings’ neat. The Copenhagen II youngster Is raced by Mr T. A. Greig, and the Final Orders gelding, the winner of the corresponding event at the Grand National meeting last month, carries the colours of Mr and Mrs J. A. Higgs, of Wellington. Mr Higgs owns the Canterbury-based Final Orders. The winner, and runner-up were clear of a Grey William— Carlo Bella edit, prepared for Mr C. H. Zanderbergen by M. R. Jones at Washdyke. ; Parthian, a Greek God—Petite Arnie gelding raced by Mn E. P. Corby and trained by her husband, was nertof the five runne The Copenhagen n gelding’s time for the distance was 24 2-5 sec.
Little work "The Press" Special Service HASTINGS. Heavy rata limited trackwork at Hastings yesterday morning. There was very little fast work. Frigate, which is .close to its peak, ran six furlongs on the plough ta Imln 23 2-saec, the last three in 41 2-ssec. He worked particularly well. Martian’s Beauty, Southern Saga and Pimlico, all hit, out freely over half a mile ta 52 3-ssec, the last three ta 39 ISsec. • -
