SAIGON, Sept. 7. South Vietnamese troops set up temporary camps just below the Demilitarised Zone and near the Laotian border today in preparation for a series of search and destroy operations which could extend into Laos, military sources said.

The troops moved into the area, where an estimated 10,000 North Vietnamese are massed, after saturation bombing raids by American 852 bombers yesterday. The sources said that some 200 United States and South Vietnamese helicopters and fighter’bombers would support the Government troops m their new. action.

Government troops would pursue the North Vietnamese into Laos if the enemy forces withdrew across the border, the sources said. A South Vietnamese military spokesman said that there had been no reports of contact since the operation began.
