S.I. office in Auckland
(N.Z. Press Association) INVERCARGILL, September 3. A South Island information centre will be established in Auckland by the South Island Promotion Association, the South Island Local Bodies’ Association was told at its annual conference in Invercargill today. The association unanimously approved of the venture. Mr M. F. Foate, chief ex-
ecutive of the 5.1.P.A., explained the idea of the information centre in a report to the local body delegates. “The centre could be used for the distribution of publicity material covering the whole of the South Island and for supplying general information,” Mr Foate said. It had been suggested that the information centre could be available for use by South Island businessmen, official visitors, and local body representatives as a meeting venue as required, he added. The project would include the appointment of a person who would be responsible for distributing brochures and other South Island material. “This would keep the South Island image before North Islanders,” Mr Foate said. He said that it was not envisaged the centre would be a large office with a big staff. However, there would be some cost involved and official inquiries would be made of various organisations and local bodies for finance.
To be successful, it would need not only the support of 5.1.P.A., but of all cities and main centres throughout the South Island, local organisations, manufacturers’ organisations and progress leagues.
