Degrees in business

Sir, —Mr Stewart would probably find B.A. degrees more useful in business if university students were not allowed to enter university until they were 19, and had at least one year at fulltime work before entry. A year of chastening experiences as a junior worker and a year longer to grow up and also to be surer of what he or she really wanted to do would make the student more sensible and responsible, and more likely to get on with study instead of incessant parties. Some would find they preferred not to go to university after all, and this would leave more places for those who really do. Form 7 at high school should be only for those not going to university. You don’t grow up by staying at school, and you misuse talent'and training if ypu are immature. — Yours, etc., PARENT OF STUDENTS. September 2, 1971.
