Nuclear test petitions
(N.Z. Preri Aieociation) WELLINGTON, Sept. 2. Two petitions urging the Government to intervene to prevent further French nuclear testing in the Pacific were reported back to Parliament today with a recommendation that they be referred to the Government only “for consideration.”
The chairman of the Potions Committee, Mr V. S. Young (Nat., Egmont), reported this recommendation on the petitions of Guy Allen and 2762 others and J. Naea and 391 others urging the Government to intervene to try to prevent further Pacific nuclear tests and to co-operate with other Pacific Governments in this object. On behalf of the petitioners, Mr J. L. Hunt (Lab., New Lynn) said he thought they would be “most disappointed.”
