PARROTS IN SHIP

Seven Australian parrots which were found aboard the Kowhai after it left Port Kembla have been confiscated.

When the Kowhai was at sea, six live parrots were found in a case among the cargo. These were confiscated on the master’s orders, and the bodies cast into the sea. A seventh live parrot was later found loose in a cargo hold, and on arrival at Lyttelton on Tuesday afternoon this bird was also confiscated, said the port agricultural officer (Mr C. H. Crapp). Mr Crapp said that nobody aboard the Kowhai had claimed ownership of the parrots.
