Suizu likely at Wanganui

“The Press” Special Service WELLINGTON. Suiza, an expensive failure over a mile at Ellerslie not long ago, has a chance to atone in the F. F. Newman Handicap, first leg f the Wanganui T.A.B. concession double tomorrow, Suizu, a four-year-old,

raced by Mr J. G. Alexander, a well-known Wanganui racing identity, comes to Wanganui with a high reputation.

Trained at Te Awamutu by W. and G. Sanders, Suizu was a fine third at Te Awamutu before his Ellerslie failure. That was over seven furlongs, and his miss was over a mile.

By Le Filou, Suizu should have little trouble in running out the mile and a quarter of the Newman Handicap. He will probably carry a good deal of northern support, but the favouritism seems likely to rest with course specialist Black Charm. Back to her favourite track, after a bonus win at Foxton last week, she looks very hard to beat as her win at Foxton was a firstclass effort in heavy ground. Much interest will be taken in the effort of Bompa. If he runs to form, his trainer,' S. Brown, may include him in the team for Australia. He was fourth when resuming at Te Awamutu, but failed at Tauherenikau a fortnight ago. He missed a bit of work between those runs and is expected to get much closer this time. Komatu, which has not been over-raced during the winter, comes into the picture after his close second to Black Charm last week. The track suited him there and should be right at home at Wanganui.

Crown Law will be a red hot favourite for the Owen Handicap, second leg of the Wanganui T.A.B. double. After a 20-month lay-off he trounced the Foxton sprint field last week with plenty in hand and he should win again. Crown Law is booked for Australia and a good race here would certainly enhance his prospects. It will take a brilliant performance to beat Crown Law, and if any runner in the Owen Handicap is capable of producing it, then it is Karate. At the Queen’s Birthday week-end Karate took a brilliant double in heavy ground at Wanganui. The second day he stormed down the outside to win by six lengths
