More births and deaths
More births, deaths, and marriages were registered last month than in July, according to figures given by the Registrar qf Births, Deaths and Marriages in Christchurch. Last month 558 births were registered, compared with 487 in July and 500 in August last year. Deaths last month totalled 291. In July there were 263 and in August last year 300.
There were 194 church marriages and 51 registry weddings last month, compared with 212 in churches and 45 in the registry in July. In August, 1970, there were 246 church weddings registered and 41 in the registry.
