Migration gain

WELLINGTON, Sept. 2.

There was a net migration gain to New Zealand's population of 5025 in the year to May 31, the Minister of Immigration (Mr Marshall) said today.

This compared with a net gain of 879 for the year ended May 31, 1970, and a net loss of 10,639 for the year to May 31, 1969. Replying to a Parliamentary question from Mr L. F. Sloane (Nat., Hobson), Mr Marshall said these figures represented total migratior flow, involving both perman ent and temporary arrivals and departures. With regard to permanent and long-term migration, in the year to May 31, 1971, there was a net gain of 1709, compared with net losses of 2998 and 6723 for the years ended May 31, 1970. and 1969 respectively.
