Children injured
<Tr<rm Our Own Reporter) NELSON, August 31. Two children were tonight in the intensive care unit of the Nelson Hospital after a two-vehicle collision at Wakefield. All six occupants of the vehicles were admitted to hospital, but the two children were the only ones on the seriously ill list tonight The children, Sharon Gibbons, aged six, and her brother, David Charles Gibbons, aged eight were passengers m a car driven by their grandmother, Mrs Haze) Rosabele Gibbons, aged 58, of Auckland. She was staying with the parents of the children, Mr and Mrs D. J. Gibbons, Pigeon Valley. At the intersection of Clifford Road, Edward Street and Pigeon Valley Road the car was involved in a collision with a utility vehicle driven by Kelvin Claude Eggers, aged 21, which was travelling north from Wakefield on Clifford Road.
Two passengers in the utility vehicle, Kelvin Eggers’s brother, Bevan Eggers, aged 17, and his father, Claude Bernard Eggers, aged 46, all of 125 Main Road, Hope, suffered severe facial lacerations. Kelvin Eggers escaped with bruising and lacerations to his elbow. All were described as satisfactory tonight although under observation. Mrs Gibbons and the two children were admitted to hospital with severe head injuries and although Mrs Gibbons was still under observation her condition was reported as satisfactory tonight The children, however, were in a serious condition.
