The seasons

Spring in the Southern Hemisphere officially begins today, according to the Meteorological Service. This replies to a question of Mrs I. Campbell, who in a letter to “The Press” said she was not exactly clear about the official dates for the beginning of the seasons. “I was taught in my school days that winter finished at the end of July. If mid-winter is June 21, then it seems only reasonable that spring must begin on August I,” Mrs Campbell said. The official dates for the beginning of the seasons are:— Summer, December 1, autumn March 1, winter June 1, and spring, September 1.
