Resignation accepted
The resignation of the chief engineer (Mr E. B. Dalmer), to take effect from February 1 next, was accepted with regret by the North Canterbury Catchment Board at its meeting yesterday. The board decided to advertise the vacancy, with applications closing on September 15, and set up a committee to prepare a short list for consideration at the October meeting. Mr Dalmer holds degrees in engineering, commerce, and law. Before the Second World War he was engineerclerk to the old Selwyn County Council and engineer to the Amuri County Council. In 1946 he became an assistant engineer to the board, deputy chief engineer in 1952, and succeeded the late Mr H. M. Reid as chief engineer in 1964. Mr Dalmer served overseas with the New Zealand Engineers, being mentioned in dispatches for his services in Italy. He graduated as bachelor of commerce in 1941, while on war service, and was admitted to the Bar as a barrister and solicitor in 1968 on the sponsorship of his son, Mr J. W. Dalmer.
