(N.Z. Presi Assn.— Copy right)
MOSCOW, August 5. The Soviet Union leadership has announced the death, at the age of 56, of Professor Georgi Babakin, the space scientist who designed equipment for unmanned Russian spacecraft, the New York Times News Service reports. Like many other leading Russian space experts, Professor Babakin was unknown, even in his own country, outside the narrow circle of those privy to secret information.
His obituary, published in “Izvestia” last night, was signed by the First Secretary (Mr Leonid Brezhnev), President Podgomy and the Prime Minister (Mr Kosygin) along with leading party, industrial, military and scientific figures.
