MEASURES WELCOMED
New financial measures announced by the British Government last month are expected to spur car sales in Britain, and give the industry “a shot in the arm,” the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders reports. The industry has warned the Government several times that it cannot hope to remain competitive on international markets without a strong home market as well. Purchase tax reductions will mean a saving of $6O on the price of a new Mini, $l5O on a Rover 2000 and more than $l2OO on a new Rolls-Royce. Hire-purchase controls have also been removed.
