Dump trucks for Twizel

Three. Ministry of Works dump trucks from Turangi passed through the road tunnel early on Wednesday morning after arriving at Lyttelton aboard the interisland steamer Maori. Each truck, which was driven under its own power, weighs nearly 22 tons. They are nearly 24ft long, 12ft wide and 13ft high. When the three trucks were being discharged from the Maori, the outside rear wheels had to be removed to allow them to climb the ramp linking the Maori with the shore. The trucks are bound for Twizel.
